A great deal of time on the internet is spent finding different ways to say, “Oh, you didn’t know that already? Huh. I’ve known for ages.

Paul Constant Reviews Twitter - Features - The Stranger, Seattle’s Only Newspaper

This “review” of Twitter in 140 character-lines is actually amazing. This line is good but belies the seriousness of the rest of it. I like.

BEST PARTY OF ONE Perfect moments are never the ones you work hard to create. Too much effort kills the magic. Instead, the moments we treasure are those that steal up on us, slipping past our defenses to reveal, for just an instant, the sublime wonder of the universe. This is precisely what happens during one’s first encounter with the Lexington Street disco ball, innocuously spinning its multifaceted heart out on a quiet neighborly block in the heart of the Mission District. One moment you’re just walking down the street minding your own business — perhaps rehashing the “should have saids” or the “could have beens” in the muddled disquiet of your mind — when suddenly you spot it, the incongruously located disco ball suspended from a low-hanging branch, throwing a carpet of stars across the sidewalk for anyone to enjoy. All is still, but the music in your heart will lead you. Hold your hands in the air, walk into the light, and dance. (Lexington between 20th and 21st streets, SF)

Weakerthans - My Favourite Chords

I am randomly going to a Weakerthans concert, a band that I was briefly obsessed with circa summer 2004, and then only with one album which came out in 2000. But damned if it doesn’t promise to be a solid nostalgia fest.

What is wrong with me, though, that “perfectly fine” isn’t good enough for my life? Where did that ego come from, the one that’s sure I somehow deserve more, deserve some euphorically happy existence that I’m not completely certain I’ve even earned?

My favorite line from the New Yorker in a while

“Heads bent, avoiding eye contact, and sullenly postured like the punctuation at the end of a question for which there is no answer — What the fuck? — they filed into the benches reserved for courtroom spectators.”

I’m not entirely sure it makes sense, but it sure FEELS like sense.

Follow-up

More metrics from my day:

  • Number of cabs taken between Bryant & 7th and my house, out of spite and laziness: 2
  • Number of trials ordered to show up at: 1
  • Days trial is estimated to take: 7-9
  • Number of mental epithets lobbed at judge, who takes the justice system and the right to a trial by jury VERY SERIOUSLY: Oh, thousands
  • Number of times I heard that weird Flo Rida / Eiffel 65-sampled song “Sugar” and wondered if “kids these days” even realize that “Blue (Da ba dee)” was once a song all on its own: 1
  • Number of white whines: 1 (“Fucking Dolores Park Cafe doesn’t have power outlets?!”)
